Mohamad Abdul Wahid Endut, a candidate from Malaysia's opposition Parti Islam se-Malaysia (PAS), is carried by his supporters after winning the key by-election in Kuala Terengganu, about 500 km (311 miles) northeast of Kuala Lumpur January 17, 2009. Malaysia's opposition Islamist party won a fiercely contested by-election on Saturday in a vote that was cast as a referendum on incoming prime minister Najib Razak.
